We live in a world that gives us all kinds of messages about what true love is. The TV shows, movies and books we read all portray love in so many different ways. Sometimes with all the different portrayals of love, its hard to really determine what true love is. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? Is light best friends with dark? The Bible gives us the best picture of what true love is. If you want to really understand what true love is, you will find it by reading your Bible. A good place to start is by reading 1 Corinthians 13, which talks a lot about what love looks like. I purpose in my heart to always put you first in my life. Help me be an example of true love to others and to let your love shine through me.
Relationship Mythbusters: High school dating (part one)
This lesson will make you aware of both the benefits and dangers of dating, and help you to develop a Scriptural set of dating standards. Group dating is several couples getting together. First-time dates are usually group dates. Picnics, skating parties, school functions, and church socials are ideal for first dates.
If you choose to be unequally yoked together with someone in marriage, then you are signing up for a life of misery and trouble and you will not.
Use this youth group lesson to teach teens that God shows us what true love should look like by the way He loves us. Looking for youth group lessons or Bible lessons for kids? Each team will have a bowl of conversations hearts start with 10 per student, or more, if you want this game to go on for a while! You will run to the bowl on the table and without using your hands drop the candy from your forehead into the bowl.
Act like? Think about? Hopefully it will include things like: they are all you can think about, you want to talk to them all the time, what to spend time together, etc. We can make our relationship with God about all kinds of things, but if we miss the fact that God wants us to love Him back, we miss the point. Think of it this way… The Bible is really just a huge love story in which God, the creator of everything, just wants His people to love Him.
Teenagers and Dating: Questions You Should Be Asking
Scripture: Galatians Denomination: Baptist. Dating is fast becoming the fashion of the day for many youths. Yet it remains one of the main causes of Tension between parents and youths. Sometimes its even a problem among youths themselves. Young people are beginning put much time, thought, energy and resource into the dating pressures.
I remember vividly when the book I Kissed Dating Goodbye came out. The best seller by Joshua Harris was recently back in the spotlight when Harris announced on social media that he separated from his wife and left the Christian faith. My parents, like many other Christian leaders and parents at that time, came of age in the sexual revolution. They were personally impacted by the dramatic cultural changes that came as their generation denounced previously accepted sexual values such as saving sex for marriage, marital fidelity, and sexual self-restraint.
As they came to faith and later went on to become parents and leaders in Christian ministry, one of their main goals was to create a church environment that modeled an alternative lifestyle to the increasing promiscuity in secular culture, with the hopes of protecting the next generation from making the same relational mistakes that they made. For many, this took shape through teachings on the importance of sexual purity, home and private faith-based schooling, and the elimination of dating in church youth groups.
The explanation was that dating was a slippery slope that led to premature emotional, physical, and spiritual intimacy that would compromise personal holiness and weaken Christian commitment. In theory, if Christian youth were kept from dating until they were old enough to consider marriage, then it would minimize the opportunity for sexual mistakes and relational breakdown and pave the way for them to arrive at their wedding day spiritually, emotionally, and sexually whole.
I genuinely believe that at the heart of these teachings there was a healthy desire to promote a biblically based and Christ-centered culture of mutual honor, spiritual purity, and personal holiness. However, even the soundest of theological teachings can at best be difficult to translate into daily practice and at worst, misinterpreted or reframed as legalistic requirements for Christian living that far exceed what is written in Scripture.
Drawing from fourteen years of fulltime Christian ministry combined with the experiences of friends and family, I have journeyed with many raised under similar teaching through very mixed feelings and outcomes. In their own words, some felt they married too soon to know the other person well enough, or with too little experience of romantic relationships to truly know what real love and commitment was. Both friends and loved ones shared how a strict, no-dating policy drove them to hide their relationships from their family and faith community.
In the words of a close friend:.

This has led many church youth groups to become havens for dating and premarital sex. On this Valentine’s Day week I am attempting to give some biblical.
Courtship and dating are some of the least discussed topics in the church. Yet dating has caused the most havoc, destroyed countless lives, resulted in unwanted pregnancies and abortions, and even split churches apart. This has led many church youth groups to become havens for dating and premarital sex. The following are guidelines that best fit young people but many of the principles still apply to older and more mature single adults looking for a mate.
I have taught each of my five children the difference between dating and courtship. Dating is an unbiblical method crafted by the world with no boundaries or ethics with the following assumed rules and values:. Thus, what initially starts off as French kissing quickly accelerates to petting, fondling, and then full-blown sexual intimacy. Thus, the relationship ends with at least one of the individuals feeling devastated and wounded especially because of soul ties that were created from sexual intimacy.
Although the above three points are generalizations, they are true depictions of most cases regarding dating; its devastating results on the human soul cannot be fully measured! Even worse, the double-mindedness that results from numerous sexual encounters with various people carries into future relationships and even marriage. It is amazing that most churches and youth groups do not speak about this in their discipleship processes!
Every pastor should have church guidelines that include boundaries for how their youth groups should be conducted.

Suddenly the issues of sex and boundaries start to arise, and teens find themselves having to choose sides on “hot button” topics like homosexuality and abortion.
There is a lot of growing to do in all aspects of relationships, and having Biblical and Christian guidance is essential.
As a youth pastor, I get a front row seat to the morally murky waters of teenage dating. Last night at my youth group I taught from 2 Corinthians.
The same story happens again and again. Young people, despite their better judgment and how they were raised, date someone they know they shouldn’t really be dating. Over time, simply because of the amount of time they spend together, they fall in love or into sin. They know in their heart it’s not someone they should marry but they marry them anyway. And then trouble comes Unfortunately over the years, this is a horror story we’ve heard again and again.
When young people head down this road, most times they don’t want us to counsel them and marry them. They don’t want us to know what’s really going on, they don’t want us to know what kind of choice they’re making, despite their better judgment and what God’s Word says. Many times sin is a part of this equation–they feel like they have to get married because they have entered into sexual sin with someone they know they shouldn’t even be dating in the first place.
People don’t just fall into sin. One compromise and wrong choice always leads to another. That’s why we tell young people to keep it “cool” when they are dating and to conduct themselves in purity.
